This mural is of my warlock in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, Kayne Fausteiner, MD and his patron. When I designed Kayne and his story, I was inspired by the opera, Faust, even down to using the name. He is a surgeon who made a deal and became a warlock of the Great Old One, Nyarlathotep, my favorite being described in the works of HP Lovecraft. For this piece I took inspiration from Nyarlathotep's forms and titles of The Black Pharaoh, The Dweller in Darkness, The God of a Thousand Faces, and The Crawling Chaos. I was especially happy with how the various tones of white, gray, and black worked together to show off the various layers, especially around the tear in Nyarlathotep's face where you can see his trademark eye and the abyss of his true identity hidden away.
